Our organ pipes are made of zinc
from a town called Boom in the Liege region in Belgium, as David Wallace discovered
by the manufacturer's stamp on the back of the facade pipes.
According to David, "It seems
the mine in Belgium was THE place to purchase zinc sheets in the 19th century.
This same mark has shown up on pipes by other Boston builders from the same
period."
Also found on the back of some pipes, the original stenciled decoration which was later painted over.
